Baby Steps still move us forward…
The first step is always the hardest…but if you have a dream – you can definitely do it!
I know all about the struggle to balance both raising a family, and being able to contribute to the family while staying at home.
There was an adjustment period after having my oldest son and choosing to stay home with him. After teaching 8 years and being so important in the classroom to the school and the community I was left with this feeling that I had something more to offer. I just didn’t know what yet…
Time passed and along came two more boys, I have loved every minute of being able to stay at home with them!
I Tried Something New
This past year I ventured out into something new. I knew I’ve always loved crafting, and wanted to find a way to reach out and inspire others.
I remember the Christmas break I sat down to try and come up with an original name for my business – let’s be honest – it took at least a week! That was the beginning of something exciting for me…and so “heartcraft girl” began!
Then came the Facebook group – which led to me realizing I needed a page and I needed a blog and an Instagram and all these other platforms. It’s a lot to take on and learn! I needed a way to organize my life as a mompreneur…
5 Minute Journal
I love my 5 minute journal! It was the solution that I needed to help me organize as a mompreneur and appreciate all the little things in life that bring joy.
The idea is to write down:
in the morning…
- 3 things you are grateful for
- 3 ways that would make today great
- encouraging words to yourself (affirmations)
at the end of the day – reflecting…
- 3 amazing things that happened
- how you could have made the day even better
My boys and I actually discuss these things on the way to school and it’s been a really powerful conversation starter.
Homework
I have homework for you…make your own Mompreneur Journal!
You can create this at home for yourself – a place to reflect and grow in your mompreneur business.
Step 1 – Create Your Journal
Get some notebooks for you and your kids as well as some markers from your favorite craft store. I like to create one for my kids as well, but their journal is more of an artbook to help keep them crafting, drawing, and coloring alongside me.
In your new journals, create an inspiring cover for you and something that will resonate with your kids.

You never know if you’ll get a little gem like this while you and your kids are working together.
Step 2 – Create a Vision Board
Create a Vision Board at the beginning of your journal. On it, write down your hopes and dreams for your life, your business, your family.
You can use quotes, pictures and words that inspire you – this will help keep you motivated and inspired!
Here’s an example from Amazer…
Step 3 – Journal!
On a regular basis, write down new entries in your journal! It doesn’t have to be every day (although that would be nice!), but it can be every other day, every Monday/Wednesday/Friday, or just once a week. Whatever you decide, try to stick to a regular schedule.
On each entry, try writing down:
- 3 things you are grateful for
- 3 ways that would make today great
- encouraging words to yourself (affirmations)
- 3 amazing things that have happened
- how you could have made the day even better
To add to the 5 minute journal, I also write down some of the important tasks that I have to do to move my business along.
In a future blog article, I’ll give you a better system to keep track of tasks – but it still helps to write it down in your journal because it helps you reflect on what’s important to do in your business.
Keep on Journaling!
I know being a mompreneur is difficult, but it can be so rewarding. Keep on writing down entries in your Mompreneur Journal on a regular basis, and it will help you stay motivated and focused – 2 major ingredients to building a successful mompreneur business!
You got this!
