The Easiest Affiliate Program in the World!
Oh my gosh – Amazon makes it soooo easy to earn money as an affiliate! And you don’t have to be a pushy saleswoman!
How does it work?
This is how easy it is:
- Find ANY product on Amazon
- Post a special Amazon link to that product – an “affiliate link”
- If people buy through your link, you get paid!
I get asked about this a lot. Here are answers to the most common questions:
Q: Does the buyer pay more for the product?
Amazon is HAPPY to give up some of their profit because you brought them a customer. They’re making a 15% commission on most sales, and they give up a small fraction of that to the affiliate. They still make money, and you gave brought them that sale – win/win!
Q: Where Do I Get the Link From?
Amazon creates the link for you on their special website for affiliate members. The link will look different depending on where you want to post it.
Q: How much will I make?
A: 4% commission
It is different depending on the item, but most referrals get you 4%. So it’s like $4 for a $100 purchase.
You will get paid for EVERY item bought by that user for the 24 hours after they click your link.
Wow! You’ll get paid for anything they buy after clicking your link!
Let’s say you’re chatting in a Facebook group, and you post a picture that happens to have some interesting tool in the background. Someone asks you where you got that tool from. You could post a link to Amazon directly, or… you can post an affiliate link!
For Facebook, you’ll want to post a text-only affiliate link. You can choose either a short link or a long link. Here is what those look like:
Note: The affiliate links below are for one of my products – my Twinkle Lit Teepee!
Did you click on that link? If so, any purchase you make for the next 24 hours will give us a 4% commission 🙂 Why thank you! And it won’t cost you anything extra to be contributing to my coffee fund!
If you have a blog, you’ll want to post more than just a text-only affiliate link. Amazon will give you code that you can use to make it look much better.

Don’t Be Pushy or Dishonest
Unlike many other programs out there, Amazon Affiliates is a no pressure program – unless the affiliate decides they want to make it that way.
However, that’s not what I teach. If you read any of my other crafting mompreneur blog articles, you’ll learn that I recommend giving people value in the form of something like:
- Product review
Since you’re giving the user something for free, it’s a no pressure situation. Nobody has to buy anything from you through your affiliate link and everyone still gets something for free. A small percentage might buy through your affiliate link – or even buy something else on Amazon that you get credit for. That’s the non-pushy way, and that’s the technique that I like to use.
You should also be honest with your recommendations. Don’t post a recommendation for something you don’t actually … recommend.
How to Sign Up
Do a web search for “Amazon Affiliate” and make sure you click on the search result that is on amazon.com. It’s pretty easy to sign up!
Since you’re going to be making money, they will ask you tax questions for IRS reporting and bank info for where to send the money. It might take a day or two for them to approve your application. Then you give out links and get money.
How to Create Affiliate Links
Creating affiliate links is pretty intuitive except for the “ASIN” part. That’s the Amazon identifier for a product.
The ASIN is buried in the product details for each Amazon listing. It looks like this:
Some of you might notice that this ASIN is part of the link on the Amazon page. Yes – you can copy the ASIN from there as well, if you know how to do this. Otherwise, take it from the product information section as shown in the picture above.
Based on what you have learned in this article, create one action item to do something new for your business and write it down in your MOMPRENEUR JOURNAL! Then do it! Focus on one little action item at a time and soon, your business will be booming!
